On 2nd June 2012 the community of Gerringong held ‘Gerringong’s Wave of Relief’, a fundraising Music Trivia Night to raise funds for Surf Aid International. It is with great pride to announce that the Trivia Night raised $7,000 for Surf Aid International.
Over 200 local residents crammed into Gerringong’s Town Hall to enjoy an evening of great music and fun, with all the prizes for competitions and raffles on the night being donated by local businesses, organisations and prominent people.
This evening represents Gerringong’s on going support for disadvantaged communities in the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia, whose villages were devastated by an earthquake and tsunami in 2004.
Since then Gerringong has organised 6 such events, which have rasied over $30,000 to assist these communities. Not only have our funds been used to rebuild their towns and their infrastructure, they have also been used to help eradicate Malaria and to educate villagers in health and nutrition.
The success of this event is largely a reflecton of the generosity of the local residents and sponsors amongst Gerringong. The local support is greatly appreciated and a huge thank you is owed to everyone who contributed to a great night and for making a difference to those less fortunate.
